is it normal to see weight loss when first starting on k/d diet for my cat?

Question: i started my cat on k/d diet per recommendation from my vet. since she has started this food, she has lost weight (almost 2lbs since 7/2/07). before this diet change, she was a chubby cat, and i tried forever different weight control foods that did not work. she is acting the same, going to the bathroom the same, and even playing the same. the only change i'm noticing right now is her weight. i cannot get ahold of my vet today, so i thought i would ask to for opinions about this.. could this be just from giving her a more healthy diet? is that much of a weight loss in that amount of time normal? i tried searching the internet, and could not find information i am looking for. thank you in advance for any information shared.

Answer: K/D is Hills Perscription Kidney Diet, it's not for weight loss. If your kitty is losing weight THAT FAST, I would be very worried. Normal recommended weight loss for cats is 1/2 lb per month. Please see your vet for a re-check as this could be a sign that she is not eating enough to sustain body weight. Why did the vet put her on Kidney Diet? For weight loss, the product you should be using is R/D - Reducing Diet Good Luck
