CZ550 Lott conversion-how is it done?

Question: I know they convert them from the .458WM rifles, but what is involved, i.e. chopping reaming or? Thanks Ben

Answer: The .458 Lott and the .458WM (as well as the .450Watts Mag) are based on necked up .375H&H Mag casings. The .458WM was shortened to be a long action round (.30-06 type) where the Lott and Watts are both magnum action rounds. As long as the action *is* long enough though, as in the CZ550, all you'll need to do is to slip in a conversion reamer and twist it til it seats. Some dressing of the magazine feed rails might be necessary on some rifles. Some other rifles built on long actions would take new magazines, bolt work, chamber reaming etc and could get into the high dollars. The .458WM can be fired in .458 Lott rifles so converting isn't a bad idea at all. There's almost no downside.
